1. Guy Penny

    • Guy PennyAfter leaving school Guy tried accountancy, but not liking it he moved into industry, working in catering before joining¬†a leisure group first as an accountant then becoming managing director. The time in leisure was fraught. Cinemas were suffering from the video boom and there was a need to diversify.

In a space of ten years, he turned round two companies, led three start-ups and finally managing an MBO of a large section of the group. In his spare time he turned round a private school and a golf club!

In 1990 he was asked to lead an MBI of a London based career consulting company, staying on

    • as a non-executive director. Meanwhile he continued with his own interests in Scotland.

Within five years he was drawn into a full-time role in London and left Scotland to concentrate on building a strong brand. Two years later he became managing director and in the next six years helped build a successful business.

Wanting a new challenge he formed Barclay Penny Ltd to offer Career Strategy and Mentoring.

Guy has four children and four grandchildren. Global warming in England has put paid to his favourite sport, curling. Never a good golfer, he stopped playing when he went round the first nine holes at Ilkley, Yorkshire, in two over par, deciding to quit on a high. He took up cooking, put on weight, remarried and is happy. So far he has lived life to the full.
